Nightlife in Barcelona

Barcelona is as interesting at night as during daytime. The activities and possibilities are endless. It all depends on what you prefer; you can choose from going out and having a few drinks at an original bar, going to an opera in the Liceu, going to the theatre, going to the casino or going out to dance at the Olympic Village.

We will now present you with what you can do at night in Barcelona.

Going out for a drink

Barcelona is alive at night. Especially during the summer, the streets and terraces are always full of people, who take advantage of the night and of good weather.

The most interesting terraces are the ones you can find in the Plaza Real (Real Square), in the Olympic Village, in Maremagnum and in the district of Raval.

Going to the opera

If you like going to the opera and you want to visit one of the most important operas in the world, than you must visit the Liceu, situated in the middle of the Ramblas. It’s not only worthwhile because of its operas and shows; it’s also worth going to see its architecture, its grand entrance and beautiful stage. You’ll get a taste of how the bourgeoisie of Barcelona lived in the early 20th century.

But remember to book your show in advance, since there are many people who like to go to the opera and you might not find a ticket.

Theatre

Barcelona has a great tradition in theatre, like the rest of Catalonia. We can say that our artists have a vocation for theatre and that the Catalan public love to go to the theatre. There are several theatres in Barcelona and they all have a different style. The most important ones are Teatre Nacional de Catalunya (National Theatre of Catalonia), the Teatre Lliure (Lliure Theatre) and the Teatre Apolo (Apollo Theatre). When choosing the theatre you want to visit you must bear in mind your style, your preferences, and especially what show is on at the moment.

Going out at night

And if what you really want to do is simply go out to a pub or disco, we recommend one of the liveliest areas of the city: The Olympic Village. This Village was built in 1992 for the Olympic Games and it’s one of the best areas for going out at night. There are a lot of pubs and terraces to choose from. The most outstanding are the ones that have armchairs and seats, where you can lie down barefoot. There are also a lot of restaurants, all with different styles of cuisine. And finally, for the long nights, there are a lot of discotheques, and all of them are very chic.

The Casino

The Barcelona Casino is very exciting. It’s situated in the Olympic Village, on the ground floor of the famous Mapfre Towers. If you have bought a ticket to the Bus Turístic, you won’t have to pay to enter the Casino. But, be careful! You’ll have to remember before going in how much money you’re willing to spend, and we say spend, because unless you’re an amazing player in the roulette you’ll lose your money. However, you’ll have a great time, even if you lose €20! One good thing about the casino is that it’s prepared for people who don’t know how to play. Just as you go in, they give you a pamphlet explaining how to play every game. It is really worth going! Even if it’s just to see the place, you can also get a look of really strong players.

And why not something more relaxing?

A walk on the beach, illuminated by the stars and the lights of the harbour and the terraces. Or simply a nightly walk along the Ramblas, which is also spectacular at night.
