Shopping in Barcelona

If one of your favourite activities is going shopping, then you’re going to love Barcelona. The city offers multiple possibilities to go shopping, with many option, some cheaper than others. Here we will introduce you to some of these options.

Paseo de Gracia

Paseo de Gracia is situated in what is known as the Eixample (wide street), and we could probably say it’s one of the classiest areas of the city. Here, you can find the most expensive, but also most beautiful, boutiques. All situated in the most spectacular buildings, both in an architectural and decorative sense. Here is where you will find the most prestigious (and most expensive) brand names of the world.

La Casa Batlló.

Ciutat Vella

Next to the Ramblas, there is an area called Ciutat Vella. This area is also a good place to go shopping. The shops here don’t belong to the most known brands, but you can find great offers. The prices are affordable and much cheaper than in Paseo de Gracia. It’s also worth going shopping in this area because you will walk along the narrow streets of Barcelona, where you can get a taste of a pure and traditional Barcelona.

Do you want to buy an antique? Visit Els Encants

Els Encants is a market situated next to Plaça de les Glories. Traditionally it was known as El Mercat de Bellaire and it dates back to the 14th century. It spreads over 15000 m2 and there are more than 500 stands. Here, you will find absolutely everything. From real antiques to very modern things. Els Encants is a must, it’s worth going there even if it’s just to look around. You can always find what you’re looking for at a very good price (if you are prepared to bargain). We also recommend that you go with a big van if you’re planning on buying furniture. We would’ve bought some, but since we went with a car, we didn’t.

Opening Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Shopping Centres

Barcelona, like all other big cities has many shopping centres throughout the city. Most of them are situated on the outskirts of the city but getting there is rather easy since the underground railway can take you there. However, there are few in the centre, like Illa Diagonal (In Diagonal Avenue); El Corte Inglés (especially the one situated in Plaça Catalunya) and El Triangle (Also in Plaça Catalunya).

Maremaganum

In Maremagnum you will also find a lot of shops and other recreational activities, like bars, restaurants, cinemas, etc. Normally, the shops sell famous brand names and the prices are usually affordable.
