Plaza de España of Barcelona, and Montjuïc offer the tourist many cultural recreational activities.

Plaza de España, in the heart of the city, opens the city to the mountain of Montjuïc, where you can go walking along the Avenida Reina Maria Cristina (Queen Maria Cristina Avenue). The Montjuïc Mountain was chosen in 1929 to hold the Universal Exposition, reason why it is surrounded by many buildings and showrooms.

It’s an incredible area thanks to its beauty and grandness. The Queen Maria Cristina Avenue is a very beautiful avenue, the perfect place for a walk, especially at night when its fountains are illuminated.

In this area, there are very different activities. We will tell you what you can do at Montjuïc:

The Magical Fountain

The Magical Fountain is the most impressive fountain in the city. It was built in 1929 by Carles Bohigas for the 1929 Universal Exposition. A few days a week, the fountain offers a musical and colourful show, totally free. In 2005, more than 2 million people visited this fountain. It’s worth visiting it, even if it’s only to live the atmosphere and the light of 1929.

Schedule of the musical and colourful show:

Nowadays, the Fira de Barcelona holds the most important trade fairs of Spain, including the International Boat Show, International Real Estate Show and the International Restaurant, Hotels and Community Equipment Exhibition, etc.
