Walking is the best option of getting around in VeniceSight of one of the channels in Venice The best option is, without any doubt, go walking. Venice is a fantastic city, full of channels and bridges, which converts the city into a city without cars, motorbikes and bicycles! The city is small and you can go perfectly walking from your hotel to a turist point in the city. Getting around in Venice is a constant walk. Furthermore, it's the way for you to make some exercise, and you can see the city calmly. But be careful! Wear comportable footwear. Without noticing it, you can make 5 kilometres a day walking.
"Il Vaporetto", the public transport in VeniceNaturally, in Venice there aren't buses either. If you wish to get around the city quickly the best option is "Il Vaporetto". It's a boat that navigates across "Il Gran Canale" (the main channel in Venice). They can also make the tour around the island and connect the rest of Treviso region islands. Sight of Il Gran Canale from Il Vaporetto Every 10 minutes you can reach a Vaporetto in "Il Gran Canale". The ones that make the tour around the island use to navigate every 20 or 30 minutes. In order to navigate across "Il Gran Canale" you'll spend between 35 and 45 minutes, depending on the line you take: if you take the red line (the fastest one), or the black line. To make the tour around the island will take you two hours, approximately. Anyway, walking is still the best option. We only took "Il Vaporetto" to make a tourist tour around the area. In relation to the prices, they sell a kind of full tariff: you'll be able to take as many Vaporettos as you want for 9,00 € during 24 hours. You can also take a full tariff for 3 days at the price of 25,00 €. If you wish to make the complete tour around "Il Gran Canale" during night and day and also to make the tour around the island passing by Murano, the cheapest option is to buy a ticket for 24 hours. The Taxi, the most expensive option
Yes!, there are taxis in Venice!, they are speedboats with a capacity for 6 people, which can take you also to every point in the city across the channels. We can't tell you the prices because we didn't take any, but is almost as expensive as a gondola. It's a good option, but if your budget is low, it's better not to take it.
Be aware!, just arriving at "Piazzale de Roma" (where all the buses stop), they offered us to take us to our hotel in a taxi. Don't succumb to temptation, try to go walking, which is the most used way of getting around. Otherwise, take a Vaporetto, but take into account that they will make you pay an extra charge if you carry luggage. |
